Depression Questionnaire

A few days ago, there was this post on the GayBombay mailing list about depression being more prevalent in queer circles. I usually get turned off by such clichéd topics and don’t even bother to read them. As I was about to scroll to the next e-mail, I noticed that there was this link to a questionnaire along with the blog post.

Despite hating such ubiquitious questionnaires, I actually clicked on the link and was surprised to find the source of the quiz to be a respected one. It is needless to say that I took the test and not surprisingly, I came up be moderately depressed with a score of 11.

Now, I'm posting about this just because I remembered that most of you guys out there thought that I shouldn’t seek solace in medications and therapy. Instead, you thought I should ‘just get better’. I am curious to know how you guys will fare and to judge your responses after reading through some informative passages that this site has to offer on depression and treating it.

Here, check if you are depressed!

@ Prash: Aha! Now you know! You are probably the happiest blogger ever. I kinda realized when you said yesterday that the time in HK is 12.35 pm and you must sleep.

@ DelH Boi: 10 and 5? Hmmm, anyway you are better off just like being yourself.

@ Unsungpsalm: I think you, me and Oxy (vide infra) are the most depressive bloggers on. It figures - we have similar scores.

@ Oxy: I actually thought that you would score about 10 around. And yes, I've noticed that you are depressed a little.

(I'm waiting for Fly, Swats, Chandni, Firebolt, Solitaire etc. to check theirs - I predict a high score for Fly and Swats and a very low score for Chandni and Solitaire)

I was surprised by my score!!! I thought I would have a high one, it is 4!!! My soon-to-be ex would be shocked by this. According to him, I should be on medication all the time! :) And the way I have been going lately,I really thought I should have at least mild to moderate depression!

Hang on.. I though 5 means 'none' ... and as u go up the score it says mild, moderate and severe.. erghhh wots happening here.. explain boy..

Kris Bass said...

@ myheadtrip: Well, I guess we all have answered some of the questions too towards one side. And what's the soon-to-be-ex thing? Even I think I have mild to moderate depression.

@ Oxy: I meant 'I thought you should have'. But you didn't get a score as I presumed you would? Get it?

U have so many new posts and my reader didnt notify me! :( anyway so my score is 6 i.e. mild depression or the way I see it bordering on no depression. :) After all I vent it all out on my blog. :)

Kris Bass said...

@ Prash: Was I wrong?

@ Reema: I don't know what happened at the reader. But I do post frequently these days. Lots to write about!

You escaped unscathed! ;)

@ DH: I totally forgot about you. I think you shouldn't get too much. Around 10 I feel?

OK FINE!! You were not waiting for my comment, but even then am being shameless for once.

But WTF!!!! Are you guys serious???
I got a score of 20!! :(((( And I am NOT kidding...seeing that score sent me into further depression...I guess the next time I take it, I would go into the 'Very Severe' category.
Isnt there anyone who has got a score in the severe range?!! Am I the only severely depressed sole in this blog world? (I hope you guys don't score as high, but then misery loves company no :(( )

it's not a fair test, it's from the drug companies and they just want you to take their products, this test has to be taken over and over again and then averaged, it doesn't mean you need a pill....dh

Kris Bass said...

@ Rebel: Aww, come on. I was so curious about a few of them.

That's a huge score. Well, you might as well seek some therapy. I don't think anyone else would get there. Vinokur would have had he taken the test a week or two back.

@ DH: I don't know about the fairness dude. I think it's not a marketing ploy.

listen DUDE,
when the maker of the pill is selling it to you and making you do some kind of self diagnosis it's rigged --i scored like 20098 on the test. but i feel great, I just tend to always thing there's an asteroid just moments away from my head, that does not mean I need Lexapro, it just makes me who I am, there is no fantasy island where everyone's happy -dh

Kris Bass said...

@ Hines: Okay, okay. I don't think you need any pills. But I thought some people, like me for example, could benefit when we aren't doing all that great.

:)

take a long walk and write in your gratitude book.
it really works. you have so much compared to most.
a sense of humor, talent. no need to be glum, leave that shit at the movies.-hines

Kris Bass said...

@ Hines: Well, I might have so much more. But that doesn't make me any less of a person with emotions. Hence, I seek for some advice.

Anyway, we should really cheer up!
