Hair fall solutions?

I come from a family of men who are bald, obese and generally ugly. The obesity part is manageable with some dietary adjustments, exercise and wisdom. Ugliness is subjective really. I’m not saying that I think I’ll pass of as a model or anything but yeah, I look decent. The only thing that I am scared of is getting bald.

Why, all of a sudden? Well, the story is that in the past few months I have been losing hair. Not in the typical androgenic balding pattern. But I think I’m getting generally thinning. It is evident in my apartment clear white tiles as I broom everyday. It is evident in the bathroom drain sieve as it gets clogged every now and then. A scary thought – my father who’s entirely bald and almost Mr. Weatherbee-esque had hair like the Parachute ad-models until 30. One deluge of hair and he turned bald.

I have reason to believe it is rather wide-spread and not necessarily limited to the scalp as there are much shorter, curlier hairs in my dust pile after brooming. Aaargh? Nope, wrong there. I’m a semi-hirsute and it must be from the pectoral region.

So what do the wise men and women of the blogging world have as suggestions to me?

(Stats: 28 year old, non-vegetarian who hardly has enough money to eat. Don't smoke. Hardly has alcohol. I drink about a litre of water. I sleep irregularly and worry a lot. I prefer coconut oil to anything else for hair. I use conditioner and shampoo (regularly) about twice every week. Pantene and Garnier are my preferred brands. I used to use hair gels when I went to the hospital.)

you must have seen in my pictures on my blog that yeah, we are on the same department...the only thing is i guess mine is more prominent...but what the heck! at the end of the day, it all boils down to ATTITUDE...PERSONALITY...think of andre aggasi, jude law, james blake etc....psst, im planning though to have a transplant at Apollo hospital when i have lots of moolah :)
hey, i miss you...

Don't worry much, don't use gels or hard shampoos, drink lot of water, sleep well and eat well. And reduce the stress level. I think that's what are necessary for preventing abrupt hairfall. And Andy agrees to this (since he's dermatologist, i have to accept it)

But who cares about the hair? Pepe is right. Aggasi looks more sexy now. :P
It's all about confidence, attitude and personality... which you have. So don't worry, and live life. :P

@ Pepe: Strangely though, I think that looks good on you. I agree with you about the attitude and personality.

You have got an impressive list out there. :)

Why are you missing me?

@ BK: What are hard shampoos? Eat and sleep well and lots of water. So Andy's is a cool boyfriend to have.

Why is everyone so interested in Agassi? Yeah, I love Agassi!

the moment you sense it falling out use Rogaine. it works, you will keep what wants to fall out. if it comes out it. is not coming back, ever. I call it gorilla juice. it works. *don't put it on your crotch, if you are tempted cause you don't have hair down there because you keep shaving it off ---nothing can help. dh

once u find out let me know as well.

Losing hair is crazy and depressing

Kris Bass said...

Pepe: Awww! Sweet!

@ DH - Rogaine? I looked it up. It's minoxidil. Yeah, that's proven to work it. And don't you ever allege me of being a shaven cunt okay? Cuz I ain't! Are we not indulging in vulgarity?

@ Chandni - Yes. But I need more help that just medications and sleep etc advice.

it was a joke haha!, of course you don't shave there. that's silly. and please go back to Jaya, it was not ready when you read it. --dh
( p.s. and shaving down there is not so weird. I don't know one girl without a total buzz and all the guys are very very closely shaved, I of course prefer a natural body and can't stand a shaved guy much like you.)

i meant that we both hate the shave.

(s)tresses.

I remember having complimented you on your "raven tresses" sometime ago (ref."my single pictures")

Well, it seems somebody is looking at the mirror much too often! HA!

I quite like what Pepe has to suggest though. After all, its all about aging with grace, isnt it? Then why add an (s) to your tresses. Just destress, consult a stylist and dress your hair new.

May be its time for a cleaner look? May be its time you questioned your conformity with the look of a rockstar? And may be its time to have a style of your own.

Happy grooming.

PS: Your comment on De's blogpost on "Dostana" cracked me up. Why would you assume I am against effeminate gays? As with the promos of the film, I was simply critical of gay acting made synonymous with suggestive lip-gestures.

For me, its all about non-conformity you see.

HA!

Hence, I agree when you say ugliness is subjective. But who said models are great ?!?

I am not the right person to give you any advises. I am loosing hair too and I come from the same family background like yours (except I do not find my fellas ugly hahahaha). It has been 4 years I use a shampoo which says L'Oreal Shampoo for Men. Type= first signs of loosing hair

I think sometimes it works, to use the same shampoo for a long time and especially when it is custom made for a situation like this.

But again, loosing hair is something we can't do anything. It is our future (for many men)Maybe try to have a clean-shaven look. Most of the men try to shave completely when they have the signs of baldness.

the only advise I would like to give you is : embrace the baldness with wisdom

1-Worrying abt hair loss only aggravates ur hair-loss..so first thing..stop worrying abt it..

2-Make sure u thoroughly rinse ur hair after using the conditioner.

I wasn’t aware of the ill effects of ‘hair rebonding’ and I’ve caused enuf damage 2 my hair..

So I’ve called for this hair oil which is supposed to be amazing..my uncle is using it nw and i cn already see the difference ..i’ll try it and if u wish to have it couriered, I’ll send it across

Prash said...

oh btw, I forgot to tell you...I also heard that coconut oil is not really good for hair ~ better to use fruit based gels...

and, alcohol has nothing to do with hair loss !

Kris Bass said...

@ DH: I'm kinda surprised that you don't.

@ rambws: Well, Andy is the expert all the way from Blogging Knight's blog.

@ Kush: It's not the mirror honey. I'm worried about the irritating hair on the floor situation. The hair dresser thing is in the offing after the record label money comes in. Cleaner look? I'm not ready for that yet.

About Dostana, sorry for the misinterpretation. ;)

@ Prash: L'Oreal shampoo? Hmm... that's useful. Any particular subtype?

@ Swats: Okay I will stop worrying about it. I do rinse my hair after conditioner. What is 'hair rebonding'? And what's this new hair oil? Maybe, I would like to have it?!

@ Prash: I see. Fruit based gels? Any specific names?

Shave your head. In my family balding and a receding hairline is active, so I'm keeping my hair short, so when it does thin, it won't be a huge change.

Aah, thats quite scary and I had been through my share of it. Mine was not hereditary. I had shoulder length hair, thought of straightening it. Started using conditioner after straightening and started losing hair rapidly. Many suggested many things... But I did what my sis told , "stop using shampoo n conditioner, drink more water and use coconut oil". And yea, In 15 days, I started getting hair back dude.. Now I use shamppo twice a week, conditioner totally stopped.. and water intake is 3-4 liters.. Urs is too less btw..

My Sleep is irregular too.. I do not sleep for more than 4/5 hrs... Yes it could be a reason too (not sure though)

you think you have it bad? Im bald and im just 20!!

the best way really is to be less stressed out and use amla

but if its genetic- you cant do anything about it- just learn to live with what you have and celebrate it- its all about our own insecurities with our image anyway

if you get too insecure- theres always hair weaving :P

‘Rebonding is a chemical hair treatment that makes your hair straight, sleek and shiny..and after tht ur only supposed to use shampoos specifically meant for straight hair..i am using L’Oreals anti frizz absolute repair..

Rebonding actually screws ur hair texture and quality..but I was so mad at one point..i got bloody carried away..

I haven’t tried the oil..still waiting for it..if it works, il pakka send it across

Kris Bass said...

@ Sam: Okay. That's on my agenda anyway. But not immediately.

@ Oxy: So you say no conditioner and more water. Well, that's more or less what I was expecting. But Coconut oil? Hmm..

@ Akash: Which Akash is this? The dude who dates the DJ? Amla? I was thinking of the Carlos Valderamma wig at least for the gigs!

@ Swats: I haven't heard of rebonding ever. Is that one good? (L'Oreal anti frizz absolute repair). What is this oil?

Rambler said...

actually I am sailing in the same boat..do let me know if something helps :)

Stop using conditioner altogether. It is the single cause of hair loss. If you have to, use it maybe once a month. I can't tell you how bad conditioners are for hair.

I don't know whether the following items are available in India :

1. Garnier Fruitis Style (Hair Gel) Green colour tube

2. L'oreal Elseve Homme Shampoo
Cheveux Fragiles Premieres signes de chute (Fragile hair & first sign of fall) A grey colour shampoo box with black outline

I don't get them in Hong Kong. I do my stock whenever I go to France or ask my friends to bring when they visit me from France.

Jaani, you look great. And you will always look great. Thats all there is to it! HA!

And oh yes, Andre Aggassi is hot...oh yes he is. Suprisingly however he is thinner and more delicate looking when you see him upclose in real life. Not foppish, but not the bandit he looks on tv. Somehow the cameras seem to make him look coarser than he actually is. In the same way as Venus Williams is really just tall and very, very thin. On camera she looks amazonian.

A well wisher in NYC.

Kris Bass said...

@ Rambler: You bet!

@ Hines? : You are the first person to say it. I have been thinking about it.

@ Prash: I use Garnier Fructis gels. L'oreal Elseve Homme Shampoo thingy: I'll note it down and check it out my neighborhood supermarket.

@ awwiNYC: Thank you! I'm jealous of you just because of the real-life Andre Agassi! But seriously, I was expecting some hair-tips from you.

I think its some Ayurvedic oil…

Absolute repair is superb..its working for me at least! Tht conditioner just slips thru ur hair..n it feels real

I haven’t heard of men going in for rebonding..its more associated with wimmen..i had straight hair but I was dying for the poker straight look..mad me…

Kris Bass said...

@ Swats: I think I'll switch from my present Pantene/Garnier - L'Oreal without conditioner. And I'll drink more water and sleep better.

And I'll wait for your hair oil. :)

I can understand from an Indian point of view of not becoming bald. But here many Dutch people shave their head for some reason. Also many people in the bear culture have short hair or shave completely. It is a turnoff for me as it looks too masculine for me.

Tapak said...

I wanted to say you can move to Holland when you turn bald. It is normal to have shaved head here :) like being gay :)
